Windows Beta - AdGuard VPN versions

Version 2.0 beta 2
from November 8, 2022
Progress is not always a straight line, right? Sometimes smoothly, sometimes unevenly, we're moving towards a new application: eye-pleasing and user-friendly. In the second beta, we've fixed UI bugs and updated the VPN client.
Version 2.0 beta 1
from October 24, 2022
Meet the first beta of AdGuard VPN v2.0 beta 1 for Windows. We've fixed minor bugs, updated the app design and the VPN client.

Windows on ARM support [#3067] (https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForWindows/issues/3067)

In this version, we’ve added a driver that allows AdGuard to run on ARM-based Windows devices. Now, if you install AdGuard on your computer with a 64-bit ARM processor, we’ll automatically detect this and install the right driver. You can just enjoy.

App redesign

new_main_window_eт.png Finally, AdGuard VPN for Windows also can boast the new design which is starting to cover other platforms as well: a handsome ninja on the main page, a more compact Exclusions screen, and redesigned Settings and Support screens. App exclusions are now more intuitive, too: you'll now see a tab with the same name in place of the “Split tunneling” tab. Besides, now the location you are connected to is shown at the top of the list of locations.

Let's start with the fact that we've improved the tray-menu interface: it's even more convenient to manage your VPN connection without opening the main application window. We also made a dark theme available for the updater window. Now it's not just the main window that's on the dark side! And, of course, we did a little bug fixing, plus we updated the VPN client.

Version 1.2.2 beta

This beta has many important bug fixes, one update, and a quote from Bill Gates. We noticed that there was an error when connecting to a VPN for a long time, and some users were periodically losing the connection for a few moments. Fixed it. As Bill Gates said, “It's fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” And lastly, we updated the VPN client.

Changelog

[Enhancement] Updated VPN client to v0.9.76 #236
[Fixed] Long-lasting connection ends with an error #231
[Fixed] VPN is disconnected every 10-15 min #238
Version 1.2.1 beta

In this beta we've fixed a few nasty bugs that leaked into the previous beta version. For example, some users experienced crashes when launching the app. We also received several complaints from users who could not log in to the app. There were other minor issues, which we have fixed as well. We have also added some translations and updated the VPN client.

Version 1.2 RC

Remember the new cool features of v1.2 beta: Exclusions 2.0, DNS filtering, support for custom DNS servers? They've been good enough to become part of this release candidate. In the meantime, we fixed some minor bugs and updated the VPN client so that the app runs more stable now. This release candidate really wants to be a full release — and with your feedback, it definitely will! Share your opinion on GitHub or any platform you like — we really appreciate your feedback.

Version 1.2 beta 2
from February 14, 2022
The first beta of AdGuard VPN 1.2 for Windows was quite good, but in order to release the second beta, we had to make quite a few "under the hood" changes. Since we've been getting complaints about occasional logouts, freezes and instability, we decided to go deeper and work on the internals of the application instead of wasting our energy on fixing individual problems. We also significantly improved performance and updated VPNLibs. The main message of this version is that the release is near!
Version 1.2 beta 1
from December 29, 2021
We’ve prepared something really special for you to celebrate these last days of 2021 year — the beta version of AdGuard VPN 1.2 for Windows with two mind-blowing new features! We completely reimagined the Exclusions section: now you can add Internet services with all their subdomains to Exclusions lists just in one click! And we’ve also added DNS filtering to AdGuard VPN, and it opens new horizons for your secure browsing.
The other changes are less noticeable but no less important: we fixed some bugs that were preventing you from enjoying AdGuard VPN and updated the VPN client.
[Enhancement] Exclusions 2.0
Exclusions 2.0 — the name itself reflects the extent of the changes that the section came through. Previously you could only add sites to Exclusions by entering their domains manually, but now you can do it in one click.
We divided the most popular Internet services into eight categories, such as Shopping, Social Networks, and Streaming Music Services, and added all their subdomains (e.g., *.google.com) and domain names with different top-level domains (e.g., google.ru). That way, when you tick the check box beside any service, you add all addresses associated with it to the Exclusions. Convenient, isn’t it? And one more thing to mention here: now it is possible to add third-level domains to Exclusions lists.
[Enhancement] Custom DNS support
Finally, this feature is implemented in AdGuard VPN!
What does it mean for you? From now you needn't rely on a DNS server provided by your ISP by default, you can add a custom DNS server (or servers). We recommend adding AdGuard DNS, which not only encrypts your DNS traffic but also identifies requests to malicious sites and redirects them to a “blackhole”.

Changelog

[Enhancement] Updated VPN client to 0.9.38 #196
[Fixed] System tray icon and pop-up notification icon are blurred #123
[Fixed] With the system dialog window opened the app can’t be closed properly #173
[Fixed] Split tunneling doesn't work for applications from Microsoft Store
[Fixed] The service works even though the app is closed
[Other] Updated translations
Version 1.1 RC
from October 27, 2021
Meet the release candidate of AdGuard VPN for Windows 1.1! The main task was to fix minor bugs, update the VPN client and prepare more thoroughly for the release of the new version.
Version 1.1 beta
from October 25, 2021
Meet the new beta version of AdGuard VPN for Windows. We’ve updated the VPN client, fixed minor bugs and crashes. What’s more, the new version introduces many UI changes: for instance, Split tunneling is now located in general settings.
[Enhancement] Windows: QUIC support
We switched to using the HTTP/3 and QUIC protocols to communicate with the server. HTTP/3 and QUIC is the latest, most advanced version of HTTP. Unfortunately, the new protocols won't affect speed when the connection is fine and stable, but their benefits will show up when the connection is worse – for example, on mobile devices or when connecting to public Wi-Fi.
There are several obvious advantages of the new protocols – they won't cause packet retransmissions and Head of Line Blocking (or HoLB) queues, and they will also allow connection migration. Without being too technical, the main advantage is the already mentioned improvement of connection quality in non-ideal conditions.
[Enhancement] Adding apps to the exclusions list has become more user friendly
There was a possibility to exclude apps from tunneling, but technically, it was implemented for “advanced users” only — you had to choose a path to the app.
Now there is a separate section that is more user friendly. The option to exclude apps is rather useful and crucial, at least for solving app compatibility problems.
