AdGuard VPN for Windows v2.7: Faster connections with dynamic protocol selection
Your VPN connection is only as good as the protocol behind it. In AdGuard VPN for Windows v2.7, we’ve introduced dynamic VPN protocol selection — a feature that automatically chooses the most suitable option for your current network conditions, so you can enjoy a smooth, uninterrupted Internet experience without touching a single setting.
Why protocol choice matters
AdGuard VPN supports two modern protocols: HTTP2-over-TLS and HTTP3-over-QUIC. Each has its strengths, but the best choice can vary depending on your location, network conditions, and even the server you connect to.
Previously, AdGuard VPN leaned towards using QUIC by default, even in situations where HTTP2/TLS might have offered better performance. This could occasionally mean slower speeds or less stable connections for some users.
Dynamic VPN protocol selection
With the dynamic VPN protocol selection, AdGuard VPN automatically figures out which protocol — HTTP2/TLS or HTTP3/QUIC — will give you the best performance right now, and switches to it instantly.

The option is on by default. If you’d like to check or change it, go to
Settings → App settings → Advanced settings → Miscellaneous. There, under AdGuard VPN protocol, you can select your preferred protocol.
With Auto-select turned on, the VPN automatically adapts to network changes, reducing connection drops and speeding up downloads to provide a smoother online experience. This is particularly useful if you are in an area where VPN performance is unstable or unpredictable.
Other changes
Along with this key feature, we have also updated the VPN client, resulting in improved app performance and stability overall.
