AdGuard VPN for iOS v2.8: Dynamic VPN protocol selection
Your online experience depends on more than just your connection — it also depends on the protocol your device uses to talk to servers. In AdGuard VPN for iOS v2.8, we’ve improved this process by automatically picking the most efficient option, resulting in a faster, more reliable Internet connection for you. Let’s take a look at what has changed.
The issue
Today, we support both HTTP2-over-TLS and HTTP3-over-QUIC, but the choice between them wasn’t always ideal. In many cases, AdGuard prioritized QUIC by default, even if it wasn’t the fastest choice for the user. That’s something we wanted to improve.
The solution
To address this issue, we’ve added a new feature that significantly improves VPN connection speed and stability: dynamic VPN protocol selection. Now AdGuard VPN automatically detects which protocol (HTTP2/TLS or HTTP3/QUIC) is faster at the moment and connects to it.
This feature is enabled by default and can be found in Settings → General → Advanced → Low-level settings → AdGuard VPN protocol → Auto-select.

Why it matters
By enabling the Auto-select option by default, we’ll offer you the fastest and most reliable connection, and you don’t even have to think about it. Besides, this kind of intelligent behavior helps eliminate common connection problems, especially for users in regions with less stable networks.
