AdGuard VPN v2.3 for Mac and Windows: DNS-over-HTTP/3 support and more
What is this, a crossover episode? No, it’s the simultaneous release of new versions of AdGuard VPN for Mac and Windows! This update is another step towards perfection: version 2.3 brings you DNS-over-HTTP/3 support, a Diagnostic info section and the option to enable hardware acceleration in the Advanced settings.
DNS-over-HTTP/3 support
Now you can add h3:// addresses to custom DNS servers, and they will work over HTTP/3 protocol. This improves the security and performance of the app, especially if you’re using an unstable Wi-Fi network.
HTTP/3 (HTTP-over-QUIC) is the latest version of the HTTP protocol that uses QUIC instead of TCP. The QUIC protocol has a lot of advantages over the TCP transport layer protocol. TCP can only process data packets in the same order in which they were sent. If a packet in the middle of the chain is lost, the endpoint cannot process the packets following it until the lost packet reaches the endpoint and eventually gets processed. One of the key advantages of QUIC is that it solves this problem, because requests don’t have to be processed in any particular order.
Diagnostic info
If you ever needed to contact the support, you probably know that they can ask you to export your logs and send it to them in order to solve any issues you may encounter. This section provides even more precise debugging information that can be useful for troubleshooting, complimentary to logs. To access it, just head over to Settings → Diagnostic Info and share what's needed with our support team.
Support for new languages
Making AdGuard VPN accessible for an even greater audience is one of our goals, so we’ve added support for new languages: Slovenian, Swedish, Ukrainian, Polish, and Indonesian. Now more people can enjoy the product in their native language!
Hardware acceleration
And last, but not least, we have some special news: the option to enable hardware acceleration via Settings → App settings → Advanced settings. This can be useful if you are an advanced user experiencing visual glitches on the app.
